INSTRUCTIONS FOR UPGRADING LICENCES TO HAUPTWERK v5 FROM AN EARLIER VERSION:

If you bought an upgrade to Hauptwerk v5 then you might already have been emailed these instructions, but in case not:
HAUPTWERK VERSION 5+'s NEW LICENSING SYSTEM

As you may be aware, Hauptwerk version 5 uses a different licensing system than earlier versions. Version 5's licensing system is based on the PACE iLok system. For important prerequisites, details, and instructions for using and activating v5, and v5-compatible licenses, please first consult:

- The 'Changes in version 5.0.0 above version 4.2.1: Platform support and prerequisites changes' section in the Hauptwerk release notice.
- The 'Changes in version 5.0.0 above version 4.2.1: Licensing changes' section in the Hauptwerk release notice.
- The 'Licensing, editions, and technical support' section in the main Hauptwerk user guide.
- The 'Hauptwerk prerequisites' section in the main Hauptwerk user guide.

https://www.hauptwerk.com/support/documentation/

In particular, as covered there, you will need to have (or to create) an account on https://www.iLok.com, and to have have installed iLok License Manager on your computer (which may be downloaded from there).

You will then need to log into iLok License Manager, and to activate your Hauptwerk v5 license. Any given license may be activated either to iLok Cloud (which requires a reliable always-on Internet connection), or to a physical iLok 3 (or iLok 2) dongle. If you wish to use a dongle then you would need to have, or buy and iLok dongle yourself -- we don't supply iLok dongles, or include them with Hauptwerk, and the pre-v5 Hauptwerk USB Key cannot be used to license version 5 (or sample sets in it). iLok dongles may be purchased readily from most musical equipment shops.

Licenses that have been assigned directly to your iLok account by Milan Digital Audio will be visible on the 'Available' tab in iLok License Manager, from which you should right-click on them and select the menu option to activate them (to iLok Cloud, or to an attached physical iLok dongle).

If instead a license activation code was sent to you, then you should copy the full activation code to the computer's clipboard (Ctrl+C on Windows, or Apple+C on a Mac), select the 'Licenses | Redeem Activation Code' menu item in iLok License Manager, and paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the activation code into that screen when prompted.

Hauptwerk version 5 isn’t compatible directly with copy-protected sample sets that were created for versions 2-4, so please contact the makers of any such sample sets to obtain and download upgraded v5-compatible versions if needed.

To migrate any licenses for copy-protected pre-v5 Hauptwerk sample sets (which were previously licensed via the Hauptwerk USB Key), please:

- Make sure that the current version of the driver for the pre-v5 Hauptwerk USB Key is installed on the computer. The current version may be downloaded from: https://www.hauptwerk.com/v4-license-updates/
- Make sure that your pre-v5 Hauptwerk USB Key is attached to the computer, and that its internal lamp is lit (which indicates that it is working properly).
- Make sure that you have installed the current version of Hauptwerk v5: http://forum.hauptwerk.com/viewtopic.ph ... 15#p134591
- Make sure that you have activated your license for Hauptwerk version 5 (either to iLok Cloud, or to an attached iLok dongle).
- Launch Hauptwerk.
- If the pre-v5 Hauptwerk USB Key is working properly, you should see an item on the File menu named 'Initiate migration of Hauptwerk pre-v5 sample set licenses to this version ...'. Select that menu item, and follow its instructions to create a sample set license migration request file. It will be saved to your desktop by default. Do not lose the file!
- Send that file to us via the following form: https://www.hauptwerk.com/prev5licensemigrations/
- We will then assign v5-compatible licenses for your sample sets automatically to your specified iLok account. (If there are any complications, then we will contact you by email.)
- Activate those licenses in iLok License Manager once they appear on its 'Available' tab. (You will need to be logged into iLok License Manager to see any newly-available licenses.)
- Download the current version of the Hauptwerk licensing packages file, and use 'File | Install ...' to install it within Hauptwerk: https://www.hauptwerk.com/licensingpackages/
- Use 'File | Install ...' within Hauptwerk to install the v5-compatible versions of each of your copy-protected sample sets that you downloaded from their makers.
- You should then be able to load those v5-compatible sample sets as normal in Hauptwerk (using 'Organ | Load organ ...', for example).

We hope you enjoy the new version.
Best regards, Martin.

ERRORS INSTALLING v5 COMPATIBLE SAMPLE SETS, SOME MILAN DIGITAL AUDIO SAMPLE SETS CURRENTLY NEED TO BE UN-INSTALLED BEFORE INSTALLING THE v5-COMPATIBLE VERSIONS:

Please note that, for any iLok-licensed sample sets, it is essential that you have installed the master licensing packages file ( https://www.hauptwerk.com/licensingpackages/ ) and activated your v5 licences for the sample sets (e.g. to your iLok dongle) *before* installing the corresponding v5 sample sets, otherwise you won't be able to install them:

http://forum.hauptwerk.com/viewtopic.ph ... 15#p134736

Please also note that there are currently some incorrect versions in some of the v5-compatible Milan Digital Audio sample set downloads (at least, for the Salisbury Cathedral Willis sample set), which necessitates un-installing their data packages first.

If upgrading an existing installation from Hauptwerk v4, then for good measure and simplicity, please simply un-install *all* of the data packages ('File | Uninstall ...') for Milan Digital Audio sample sets, before (re-)install the v5 versions of the corresponding sample sets:

http://forum.hauptwerk.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=17988

(In case the same applies to any other company's sample sets, if, after installing a v5-compatible version of a sample set, when loading the organ you get an error stating that the file can't be used in this version of Hauptwerk, then please also try un-installing the data packages of that sample set, then re-installing its v5-compatible version.)
Best regards, Martin.
