Menu Off Screen

PostSat Apr 29, 2023 3:46 pm

I have managed to drag a large floating control panel off the edge of my monitor somehow and cannot get it back.

Is there a way to reset the views/default locations of the floating windows?

Picture attached for reference.

Hello Drew,

Since the 'drag handle' is on the left-hand edge of the control panel, the only way that I know of that it would be possible to end up in that situation would be if your operating system desktop extends across several monitors, and there's another monitor to the left of the one in your screenshot. If so, is the control panel's handle accessible on it (near the right-hand edge of that monitor)?

I've lost the drag handle of floating controls off the left side of my single screen before. Can't remember how I recovered...

That happened to me a while ago when I changed resolution.
My fix was to turn off (click the menu check mark) then back on.

Thanks, everyone. In full transparency, this isn't my setup but someone I was trying to help, so I am not exactly sure how it happened.

To Martin's point, I did attempt to find it on the "adjacent" screen but it is ooff the "other" side and I didn't want to try to reorient the displays on this person's setup since I was remote-ing in through TeamViewer. That gets a little hairy.

I was hoping their was a "recall all windows" setting somewhere. I know I run into similar issues with AutoCAD sometimes with it's floating windows and there's a way in there to reset to their default locations.

Thanks, Steve. There isn't a function to reset just control panel positions, I'm afraid.

In that case, try moving the mouse pointer off the edge of that monitor, estimating the distance to the control panel's left-hand edge handle, and see whether you can then click-hold-drag it back wholly on to the screen. It probably won't be too difficult, but might need a few attempts.

P.S. Or try the trick in this post: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=20774&p=155428#p155428

(I.e. close the control panel, load a different organ, move that control panel a little, re-load the other organ, reopen control panel.)

To find a lost window in Windows 10:
Alt-Tab to select that window
Alt-Space-M to put the cursor on it
Click-Hold and move it.

In my setup the hidden screens are to the left of my main monitor so when I click-hold I move to the right to see it.

Did anyone find a solution for this? This happened to me and I was able to resolve it. Here's how:

I had to add a 2nd monitor and change the config to "Extend these displays".
By default, the 2nd monitor extends to the Right of the main display monitor. My stuck HW panel (Midi record/player) is on the left and its "drag handle" is hidden. Just like the picture in the OP thread.
So I made the 2nd monitor the Main display in the Windows display settings. The displays swapped places as expected.
When I go to click on the stuck panel, now the left drag handle appears on the top right corner of the opposite display.
I move it over to the center then return the display settings back to its original setting (monitor 1 is the Main display).
It was stuck again when I loaded different organ, so I repeated the steps again to resolve.

Would be nice if there was some sort of "floating screen reset" command to resolve. I don't know of a solution if you are unable to add 2nd monitor to you setup.

Hello Danny,

You could use the trick I mentioned:

(I.e. close the control panel, load a different organ, move that control panel a little, re-load the other organ, reopen control panel.)

I've logged as an enhancement request that you'd appreciate a new option on the Organ Configuration Wizard for resetting all control panel and piston toolbar pane positions/states to their defaults.
Best regards, Martin.
